The Infinite Mix - Art Instillation Waterloo

The 26th of September was my first day at University. It was not what I was expecting at all. We were introduced to our tutors and 10 minutes later they were sending us to an exhibition at the Hayward gallery by Waterloo. They told us to be inspired by the artwork and create a 10-30 second response however you wish. The video was filmed on an iPhone 6 and edited in Adobe Premier Pro.

The exhibition was a mix of contemporary sound and image, which brought together a variety of audiovisual artwork, that was soulful and experimental in their explorations of sound and image. We found that some of the music was composed by the artists or it was remastered to suit their visuals. The necessary coexistence of both visual and sound was crucial to the success of the installations. The Infinite Mix included work that confronted historical and cultural tensions that were in some cases thought-provoking and in others, funny and entertaining for example No.5: Jeremy Deller & Cecilia Bengolea. Bom Bom's Dream,2016. The piece featured the adventures of a Japanese dancer known as Bom Bom dancing for her life in a 'Twerk off', (which in itself is cross cultural) however, the visual effects used to create a fantastical world is said to compare to the contemporary likes of Alice in Wonderland.

My groups video was inspired by the colours and random effects featured in the No.5 video but the dual screens were inspired by the Kahlil Joseph's m.A.A.d,2014 and his rendition on Kendrick Lamar's life. However, his main focus was on the prismatic portrait of the people and the streets of Compton. We used the ideology of the 'streets portrait' and the people from the city of London to feature in our 23 second video. I chose to use Kanye Wests - Fade - song to play in the background as the postmodern take was that everyone seems to blend into the norms and in a sense, those who try to step out and stand out from the crowd now become a majority instead of a minority.
