Today I attended the Untitled conference: emerging landscapes for creative communication. I spent the day interviewing the creatives that attended and spoke on the day. It was a great day of networking and interviewing as I was able to get one on one time with every speaker, which gave me an edge when producing the video as we had control over the content produced. My group was the only group to sign up for the interview team, I saw this as a great opportunity for networking. Throughout the day I got emails and contact info for whenever I need help with a project or if I ever wanted to contact them in the future. It was lovely to speak to Ellen about her time as a copy writer at Love and her attitude towards the industry. It gave me the opportunity to be right in front of the right people.
During the conference we would watch the first speakers speech till the end and then as soon as they finished speaking on stage we took them off outside to a little set up we had. We thought it would be a good idea to take them straight after the speech as their adrenaline would be pumping and they would find it easier to speak to us because they have just finished speaking to a crowd of people and then they would be able to summarise better. They were also more relaxed because they had done the hardest part.
I knew i wanted to make an impact with them, as such, because I have not finished my business cards I wanted to make something I could give to the speakers we had planned to interview. We had not planned to interview everyone as we though the group who had won the branding would do half. If I had known we were doing all of them then I would have done an illustration for each. However, as such I produced four illustrations that I had planned to give the speakers with my name Instagram account and Website.
What better way to do this than to create portrait sketches of them. Everyone loves something personal and I wanted to do that as an extension of this project. I saw it as an opportunity and jumped at the chance. I was a bit nervous to do it but I thought I spent all this time on them I needed to put them to good use.
Be the person that says yes and can have a can do attitude as you will learn far more and make more friends within the industry that way. It also shows you to be a nice person which is hard to find nowadays as stated by Ronan who was one of the speakers. It was a very beneficial day for both the project and my insight into the creative industry and found it very empowering and up lifting. It sparked a drive in me to push further in my creative career and to not be afraid to side step and try something new within it.
