FMP - Making the tote bag
I thought as a nice extra to add another 10% to my project I thought I would try to make some merchandise such as a tote bag, this is because they could be sold to raise money. Also, I haven't made a tote bag and wanted to try and see if I could do it.
It was great trying it out. It was so quick to do as well. I took a bit longer than just putting the illustration into a mockup but it was nice to make something physical. I realised because your printing in reverse, and you want to print text, you have to mirror the design. I also had to submit the illustration in RGB format. Which I didnt do the first time. This annoyed me because all my designs were in RGB but I just forgot to change the file set up from CMYK to RGB. So it cost me to reprint it. But I learnt a valuable lesson to check everything before you click print.
Once printed I allowed the ink to dry otherwise the black would have smudged and well it wouldn't have ended well.
From here I cut everything down and started to heat press the design onto the bag. To make sure the material wasn't creased I pressed it at 200 degrees to iron out the creases for 30 sec. I then placed the design and grease proof paper between the heat press and the design, I then put the heat press on. I was a bit scared because the handle was stiff and I didn't want to burn myself. Once done they looked really good. I was really proud how they came out, especially as a last minute addition to the project.
