FMP - Brainstorming execution of idea and planning out time

Today I discussed with Brian about interview and findings, he said that I had done enough researching I now had to implement what I had found into execution. I was going to produce a book as I discussed with Claire Cunniffe (CEO of CLAPA) - discussing how I can execute the idea. People remember how you make them feel, and as such - I needed stories that people can relate to without it being a 'Sob story' as this was not the angle I was going for!

However as we were discussing the idea I was thinking that the target audience I was aiming for, was between the ages of 13 - 18 year olds. This is because of a statement Claire made during our interview. She said that the most popular age for unhappiness and worry amongst children born with cleft, is around the age they have the Alveolar Bone graph, after this operation, there is nothing more surgically that can do till the child gets older. This is a really hard time as well as growth wise. It is at this age, children are making the transition from primary school to secondary school. So they are more aware of how they look, as children try to make a name for themselves and they do this by any means as possible. For some they choose to become a bully to make themselves look big.

So from here I decided to make almost a digital book esk in the form of an Insta - Blog through illustrations and aesthetic feeds. I wanted to push my self to do more copywriting as this is still a weakness of mine. I can illustrate and design but I wanted to build on the copy I put with it.

As such within this project, it was a struggle at first to try and regurgitate the medical speech used to describe cleft lip and palate and put it in simple speech so that anyone could understand it. As well as linking it with illustrations to reinforce the message.

It was at this point I started prototyping and experimenting with the content I was going to post as well as how I was going to post it. Below you can see my early planning and sketching of the feed layout.

I had started to write my own stories inspired by Brian saying you need to create a story that people can connect to. So I thought about different memories and real life situations I have been in, where I either felt uncomfortable, or the situation was not fair. Or even ones I can look back on now and laugh about, but at the time I could not. As with these situations other children born with Cleft can relate and understand. But also to an outsider, they may relate to being outcasted. Its shinning a light on a situation that someone may not be aware of that they are doing. Thats why the name is 'Wpookinat', as it is a result of an uncomfortable situation where people have stared at me and I thought to my self or would say 'WHATULOOKINAT'. However the idea of the blog is to educate on what they are staring at and thus no longer do so.

Also after my meeting with Brain today I sat down and created a schedule for the next coming weeks. I allotted time to complete my competition submission on time as well as planning my execution of this blog and editing my production film. You can see below my attempt of organising my time. I need to plan in time to relax as well as working around when I was working part time. This helped to some extent, however I found that if I over planned that I wasnt achieving my own goals set. It was tricky trying to get into a groove and organising my time as I spent a while going round in circles. Trying to execute my idea and believing in it enough to post it.
